Lesson 1:
Teacher will read a book about the civil rights movement to introduce the topic. Then the teacher will give a short prezi presentation. This presentation will include video, pictures and text. The presentation will also include "polls" that the students will have to answer throughout the presentation. If the school has access to ipads or ipods, the students can follow along with the presentation and then access the quizzes when they come up. This lesson may take two days. Students will complete the following webquest. This can be done completely at school. It can also be done half at school (the research and worksheets) and half at home (the poster). Lesson 2:
Students will be put into groups and then rotate stations. One station will be reading. They will read books that the teacher provides that are related to the civil rights movement. The books will be at the students reading level. The second station will be the computer station. The students will investigate the civil rights act on websites that the teacher gives them. The third group will be at the smart board. Together, they will go through the interactive timeline that I have made. The timeline has links to websites and videos that they will watch. For this lesson, students will be presenting their posters to the class. After all students have presented, the posters will be placed around the room. The students will have to walk around the room and fill out a worksheet about the different activists. Presentation Worksheet |
